Minor Requirements
Minors may apply up to 8 units of lower-division coursework towards the requirements. Of these 8 units, no more than 4 may be non-SSU transfer credit.
- SOCI 201 - Introduction to Sociology (3 units)
- Elective courses in Sociology, which may be chosen in consultation with a faculty advisor. Elective Units: 16

Notes on Minor Requirements
- Declare the Sociology Minor: Submit the Change Major/Minor form available from the Office of the Registrar.
- Catalog Year: Students must complete the minor using the catalog requirements in place at the time they declare the minor.
- Minimum Grade of C-: Students must earn a C- in the core course required for the minor (i.e., SOCI 201: Introduction to Sociology). There is no minimum grade for electives.
- Lower-division Work: Sociology minors may apply up to 8 units of lower-division Sociology credit towards the minor. Of these 8 units, no more than 4 may be non-SSU transfer credit.
- Contract Courses: Students may take up to 8 units of Soci 499 (Internship), but only 4 units will count toward the minor. Students may take up to 8 units each of SOCI 490 (Teaching Assistant), 493 (Research Assistant), and 495 (Special Studies), but only 4 combined units of SOCI 490, 493, and 495 will count toward the minor.
- General Education: Sociology GE courses may be used to meet both Sociology requirements and GE requirements at the same time.
- Letter Grades: Courses for the minor must be taken for a letter grade (A-F), except when not available in the A-F mode.
- Senior Seminar: Is not required of Sociology minors. However, Sociology minors may receive permission to take the course if they meet the following prerequisites for SOCI 498WIC: Senior Seminar (completion of SOCI 201, SOCI 300, SOCI 375, SOCI 301 or MATH 165, each with a minimum grade of C-).
